The minimum grade point average requirement for transition to the program is 8.25. The student must also have an English proficiency through IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo. Admission to the first three years of the programme will be made as per the entry requirements of TIET.

The collaboration between the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) and Virginia Tech University, in Virginia, USA, offers International Accelerated Master’s (IAM) progression option to exceptionally qualified Mechanical Engineering students. The student completes first 3 years of regular undergraduate, and transfers to VT for 4th year. The credits shared between VT and TIET for the 4th year secures an undergraduate degree at TIET, and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from VT after completion of 5th year. This arrangement will also allow the students an opportunity to work with faculty and explore possibility of continuing their graduate work towards a PhD at VT.
